Hawkeye Volume 1: My Life as a Weapon by Matt Fraction, David Aja and others

After the events of The Avengers in New York City, the Avengers have dispersed and the star archer and master marksman Clint Barton, A.K.A. Hawkeye, finds his services going unthanked by the city that he helped save and keeps saving time and time again. Teaming up with young Avenger Kate Bishop who also goes by Hawkeye, they fight crime and serve justice as heroes around New York City. There are five different sories in this comic, in which case Hawkeye finds himself fighting robbers, having barbecues on the roof, stopping kidnappers, and catching a mole within the organization, S.H.E.I.L.D. that Barton is a part of. We see Barton in trouble and watch as he fights his way out saving innocent lives.
This comic is a quick read and is humorous in both the visual illustrations and of the dialogue and writing as well. In several of the stories the author uses flashbacks to go to different parts of the story, breaking up the story to create suspense and to show parallels within the story. This also helps with the character development of Barton throughout the story. Hawkeye's story doesn't start here but this comic does well in focusing on the story in the moment that the reader won't get confused about not knowing Barton's past. Here is an in depth character biography about Hawkeye throughout multiple comics.
A strength that this comic has is that it is able to give young readers a hero and a role model to look up to. Hawkeye shows that you should do what's right for yourself and for the people around you to defeat the bad in your life. What kids and teenagers can take away from this is to defend what you believe in from people that are trying to take that away from you. Hawkeye is an ordinary person and wants to be considered as an average Joe that does heroic things and this shows that anyone can do heroic acts.

This first volume contains the first 5 stories in the Hawkeye series out of 19. The events in this comic follow immediately after the 2012 Avengers film starring Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Hawkeye will again appear on screen in the 2015 Avengers sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron

This comic is good for teens who are in to superheroes or want to start getting into superheroes. Hawkeye is a good hero to look up to and to get into the world of superheroes and the Marvel universe. I would recomend this comic in schools as a book to introduce teens to comics as another form of reading for those that like visual illustrations. Buy Hawkeye Volume 1: My Life as a Weapon Here

Hey Brittany! Great review. I am planning on reading this book because I have gotten an interest in comic books. I have enjoyed the movies on the Avengers and I hope the like the comics of them as well. Also I liked that you mentioned the movies and even had a picture of the movie and comic.

That was awesome. I love the Avengers and when I saw this as an option, I wish I would have picked it but you did a great job with the review and found some interesting links that really made me jealous that I did not pick this book to begin with. What I like about this was that the book is almost a continuation in time with the events of the Avengers movie instead of being a stand alone book.
